Victoria Seeds Limited is a purpose-driven East African agribusiness committed to improving farmers’ livelihoods and strengthening food systems through quality seed, science, innovation and practical agricultural solutions.
Founded in Uganda in 2004, Victoria Seeds has spent more than two decades working to bridge the gap between agricultural research and the farmer’s field. Today, we are building on that foundation with an expanding presence in Rwanda and a vision to serve farmers, markets and partners across East Africa.
We believe that seed is life.
Our work connects research and development partners with seed production, soil health, quality assurance, extension support, the empowerment of women farmers and access to markets along the value chain. By working alongside smallholder farmers and research partners, we help turn improved seed technologies into practical solutions that improve productivity, incomes and resilience.
From variety selection to field inspection, processing and distribution, quality assurance is central to our seed production system.
Quality seed achieves its potential when farmers have the knowledge to adopt new varieties effectively. Through farmer field days, crop demonstrations and practical training, our extension teams help farmers make informed production decisions.
Our mobile seed shops were developed to overcome one of the persistent challenges facing rural farmers: access to reliable agricultural inputs.
By taking quality seed and agricultural information directly into farming communities, Victoria Seeds helps bridge the last mile between innovation and the farmer.
Victoria Seeds was established on the belief that improved seed, combined with effective extension services, can be a powerful vehicle for improving the livelihoods of rural households.
Our approach therefore goes beyond supplying seed. We work to strengthen farmers’ knowledge, improve agricultural productivity, create economic opportunities and support the transition from subsistence production towards sustainable and commercially viable farming.
Women have been central to this mission from the beginning. Through seed production, training, access to markets and entrepreneurship opportunities, Victoria Seeds has deliberately worked to increase women’s participation in the agricultural input value chain and strengthen their economic opportunities within rural communities.
African farmers are increasingly operating under changing and unpredictable climatic conditions, with devastating consequences for agricultural productivity and food security.
Agribusiness enterprises therefore find themselves operating at the intersection of livelihoods, food security, gender equity and environmental stewardship.
What motivates us is a passion to address the complex challenges that climate change presents to smallholder farmers.
We strive to strengthen farmers’ resilience to climate change by promoting a range of drought-tolerant varieties of cereals, legumes, vegetables and pasture crops, alongside appropriate crop protection products. We complement these technologies by empowering farmers with knowledge of productive climate-smart farming practices that enable them to improve productivity while strengthening resilience.
Through on-farm technology demonstrations and demonstration plots at agricultural trade shows, farmers, schoolchildren and partners are able to see, learn about and evaluate agricultural technologies adapted to changing climatic conditions.
Victoria Seeds’ story began in Uganda, but its vision has always extended beyond national borders.
It was our passion for building more productive and climate-resilient agricultural systems that inspired the expansion of Victoria Seeds into Rwanda.
Rwanda presents an important opportunity through its rapidly developing livestock sector, continued investment in agricultural and irrigation infrastructure, and a policy environment that supports agricultural value addition.
Building on more than two decades of experience in seed systems and smallholder agriculture, Victoria Seeds is developing its Rwanda operations as a platform for regional growth and innovation — extending our agricultural solutions from seed to feed within the dairy value chain.
Our Rwanda operations broaden our agricultural solutions to include pasture seed, forage and livestock feed, creating opportunities for more integrated crop-livestock production systems that respond to the changing needs of farmers.
Our ambition is to connect quality agricultural inputs, scientific innovation, farmer knowledge and commercially sustainable markets to contribute to more productive, resilient and sustainable food systems across East Africa.
